toum garlic sauce

raw garlic with skin on

You’re probably thinking, what is Toum garlic sauce? Great question!

Toum garlic sauce is an aggressive, delicious, hearty, savory Middle Eastern sauce that enhances any dish that could use a jolt of garlic and acid. I have had the absolute pleasure of consuming this sauce over egg curry, drizzled over roasted veggies, and slathered on my sandwiches.

If you need an easy multipurpose sauce in your repertoire, look no further. This sauce consists of only 4 ingredients:

  1. Fresh garlic cloves
  2. Lemon juice
  3. Salt
  4. Avocado oil

Blend the ingredients in the food processor. To avoid breaking the emulsification process, slowly add the avocado oil to create a smooth, velvety consistency. You can enhance this harmonious emulsion, by adding a touch of cumin for warmth and earthy flavor.

Stay tuned, I have a Toum pizza recipe headed your way…

Serves: 4 cups
Ingredients
  • 1 Cup of fresh garlic cloves
  • ½ Cup of lemon juice
  • 3 Cups of Avocado Oil
  • 2 teaspoons of pink salt
Instructions
  1. Place garlic cloves, lemon juice, and pink salt in a food processor or in a high-powered blender.
  2. Blend until garlic is well combined.
  3. Next, start adding the oil very slowly to avoid breaking the emulsification process. Slowly pour one cup at a time. Between each cup blend for 5 seconds before adding the next cup. Add the next cup SLOWLY. You're going for a thick creamy consistency. Once the sauce starts to thicken, stop the blender gently mix. Then add the remaining oil.
Notes
Garlic sauce will last two weeks in the refrigerator. The sauce can also be frozen to be used at a later date. Keep in mind, it will lose some of its elasticity only to return after being placed back in the fridge.
